Human hair wigs are very expensive and luxurious, as they are made from real hair which is more resilient than synthetic fibers hair. It needs proper care to maintain to achieve the best appearance traits and maximum lifespan. It is not at all difficult to maintain a human hair wig. You just need to wash your wig in 7-15 days. However, it should not be washed unnecessarily because it can reduce the lifespan of the wig.
Below are the steps that will guide you on how to properly wash, style, and condition your human hair wig.
1. Comb it
Start with combing at the end of the wig to remove all the tangles, then start combing from the root towards the end until you can run your brush or comb smoothly without ragging. You can use a wide-tooth comb, wire wig, straight or wavy brush, or any suitable comb. It is an important step to remove knots from hair before washing the hair.
2. Fill the sink with water and add shampoo
First of all, you need to choose the best quality shampoo according to your wig hair. For example, if the hair is curvy then choose the shampoo which is suitable for curvy hair.
Don’t apply shampoo directly to the hair, instead of this, stir the shampoo in water then use it to wash the hair. It is suggested that you should use shampoo which is specially made for human hair wigs.
3. Turn the wig inside out
Let the hair fiber hang loose, for this, you have to use your fingers to turn the wig upside down. Place the wig into the sink and press the hair fiber to let them submerge. Then gently swirl the wig to help the shampoo distribute completely. Turning out the wig will let the shampoo reach the mid-cap easily where most of the oil and dust collect. Leave the wig submerged for at least 5 minutes and try not to move it unnecessarily because it can lead to tangling of the hair fibers.
4. Rinse the wig with cold water
Take some cold water in the bucket or you can take it in the sink also, it depends on the thickness of the wig. Then rinse the wig in the cold water until all the shampoo comes out from the hair fiber. You can do it two or three times if the shampoo remains in the hair fiber. Just make sure that there is no shampoo product left in the hair.
5. Apply conditioner to the wig
Take some good quality human hair wig conditioner, spread it to your palm, and apply it evenly on the hair. But you have to be a little careful while applying the conditioner. It has to be done very gently, avoid applying it to the base of the wig because it can loosen the cap which will cause loss of the hairpiece. Leave it for 3-5 minutes in the air. While the hair is wet and saturated with conditioner, detangle it gently by using your fingers or you can also use a wide-toothed comb.
6. Rinse the conditioner
Just wait for 2 minutes before rinsing the conditioner. If you leave the conditioner on the wig for some minutes, then it will help nourish the roots of the hair and keep it hydrated. After 2 minutes, you can thoroughly rinse the conditioner under cold running water. But be careful, do it gently, and avoid stretching hair as it can cause harm to the wig. You can skip this step if you are using any leave-in conditioner.
7. Drying the wig
Turn the wig out in its proper shape and start squeezing the hair gently. Avoid twisting the fibers, brushing, or combing the wig while it is wet. Then put the wig at the end of the clean towel start rolling it and make a tight bundle. Press the wig 2-3 times, then unroll it and remove the wig. You can spray some good quality conditioning products which can help to detangle easier. Leave the wig on the wig stand and then let it dry out in direct sunlight. You can also blow dry it if you are in a hurry. For this, you have to blow dry the cap first, wear it, and blow dry the hair using a low heat setting.
8. Styling the wig
You can brush the wig once it’s completely dry. Use any comb or brush like a wire wig brush for straight hair and a wide tooth comb for wavy hair. You can also curl the wig if you want to. Hair rollers are considered the best for curling hair because does not contain any heat.
Make sure you use a wig stand or a vase to place the wig for better protection and shape when you are not using it.
